From suburban streets to major transport hubs, communities need smarter ways to move. Families, students and commuters want services that start where they live and link smoothly to where they work, study and shop. At VDI Australia, we are making those connections possible with Yutong’s global electric bus range, supported by local assembly and service.
What was once a distant idea is now a daily reality. Smaller electric buses are connecting local hubs, articulated models are preparing to ease pressure on urban corridors, and double deckers are redefining capacity on the busiest routes. Together, these vehicles are reshaping public transport – route by route, community by community.
A daily reality, not a distant idea
The Yutong E7S is already on the road with operators across Australia through active trial programs. Purpose-built for demand-responsive transport, it brings public transport closer to home and connects people directly to train stations, shopping centres and workplaces.
For passengers, it means quieter journeys, cleaner air and more comfort. For operators, it proves that electric buses deliver real savings through lower running costs and reduced maintenance. The E7S is redefining community transport, showing that zero-emission solutions are not just possible – they’re practical today.

Scaling up for cities
As demand grows, capacity matters. The incoming Yutong U18 articulated electric bus is built for exactly that role. With space for up to 125 passengers and a fully accessible low-floor design, it brings proven efficiency to Australia’s busiest routes.
Importantly, the U18 and its siblings in the Yutong electric range – like the D7E and C12E – are purpose-built EVs, not diesel adaptations. That means structural safety, intelligent energy management and Yutong’s proprietary safety standards are designed in from the ground up.
Looking further ahead
VDI is also preparing to introduce the Yutong double decker electric bus to Australia. Recently unveiled in China, it combines expanded seating with advanced battery technology, offering new possibilities for major cities and tourism destinations.
These models are part of a proven global track record. Yutong has delivered more than 196,000 new energy buses worldwide, saving 9.6 billion litres of fuel and avoiding 28.5 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions. That scale gives Australian operators confidence that the technology is reliable, safe, and ready for service here.
Clarity and confidence for operators
We know operators want clear information as they plan the transition. That’s why VDI provides tools such as our Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) Calculator, helping decision-makers balance upfront investment with long-term savings on fuel, maintenance, and compliance.
Our approach is simple: provide evidence, not hype. Whether it’s a school run, a regional shuttle, a city connector or a high-capacity urban route, an electric solution is available now.
Building a lasting legacy
For operators, the question is no longer if zero-emission buses will work – it’s how quickly they can be integrated into fleets.
The impact is already visible:
-
Cleaner air in neighbourhoods.
-
Quieter journeys through busy streets.
-
Reduced congestion thanks to larger, more efficient vehicles.
At VDI, we believe legacy isn’t about looking back at the diesel era—it’s about the future we build today. Together with our customers and communities, we’re shaping a transport system that Australians can depend on for decades to come. With trials of the E7S and other zero-emission models already underway, the future of transport isn’t distant—it’s happening now, in the suburbs where journeys begin and in the hubs where communities connect.
