From new models to being awarded BusNSW’s supplier of the year, 2024 was a milestone year for VDI Australia and Yutong. With a strategic approach to the year and a balanced mindset VDI started off 2024 with a bang, introducing the industry to their new state-of-the-art assembly facility and DKD program. This expansion marked the beginning of a fantastic year filled with new model launches, trials with major operators and an impressive presence at the National Bus and Coach Show. This approach was nothing short of rewarding, resulting in VDI’s best year to date in the Australian bus and coach industry.

Now with 2025 just underway, VDI has already achieved another significant milestone involving the expansion of their battery electric bus range. Following its official unveiling at the National Bus and Coach Show, the battery electric E7S is scheduled to be made fully available to market in the opening months of 2025. As well as this, Yutong has plans to continue innovating industry-leading technology which will include increasing the battery size on their low floor model, the E12.
Broadening Horizons for Australian Operators
VDI’s National Sales Manager Sara Clark said that as VDI is one of the only suppliers participating in almost every vehicle segment, they will continue increasing their broad range of buses.
“We have an articulated low-floor city bus coming later on in 2025, and all of our ICE range is Euro 6 compliant. With an excellent supply chain helping us, we’re planning how we can roll out more stock quickly,” Clark said.
VDI’s low floor model, the E12 has garnered plenty of acclaim from operators for its reliability and exceptional battery performance under Australian conditions. The E12 features a sturdy monocoque design combined with anti-corrosive electrophoresis treatment applied to the body, frame, and chassis, ensuring exceptional durability and a long lifespan, even in challenging conditions. With roof-mounted batteries that optimize performance and reliability, this design highlights our dedication to providing innovative and purpose-built solutions tailored to the demands of the Australian operating environment.
The success of this electric model and VDI’s other electric offerings such as their 7-metre and 12-metre electric coaches, generates confidence for operators nationwide. Now with the introduction of two more models, VDI and Yutong have no doubt that Australian operators will not be disappointed.
“Articulated buses are in high demand, particularly for government-led operations transitioning to electric, so we’re committed to meeting this need,” Clark said.
Transport Solutions Built for Australians
One major contributor to VDI’s success in the Australian market is their ability to deliver comprehensive transport solutions that cater specifically to the needs of these operators.
“As our orders increase, so does our need to satisfy customer demand. We now have customer service coordinators in all the states we operate in, providing genuine, customer facing aftersales support,” Clark said.
The two new battery electric models are being introduced in response to these demands as both models offer a unique purpose. As VDI continues its commitment to advancing electric transport, 2025 promises to be a year of significant growth and innovation. A key priority will be enhancing local industry engagement and increasing the local content within its operations, further strengthening its contribution to the Australian transport sector. This dedication to innovation and collaboration cements VDI’s role as a leader in sustainable transport, paving the way for a cleaner, greener future for Australian public transport networks.
